Remembering Tina Turner – The Queen of Pop

Tina Turner, a famous rock’n’roll singer who became a pop star in the 1980s, died after a prolonged illness at 83. She died in peace on May 24, 2023, at her home in Switzerland.

Turner, who was born Anna Mae Bullock in Tennessee in 1939, began her professional career in 1957 with Ike Turner’s Kings of Rhythm. The Ike & Tina Turner Revue, which generated successes like “Proud Mary” and “River Deep – Mountain High,” hired her as their lead singer under the name Tina Turner. Ike, whom she divorced in 1978, subjected her to years of physical and psychological torture.

Turner reinvented herself as a solo performer in the 1980s, and with her album Private Dancer—which included the Grammy-winning song “What’s Love Got to Do with It”—she rose to international recognition. She became well known for her energizing performances, strong vocals, and stunning appearance. She has played the lead in films like Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and had a biopic and musical based on her life’s events.

Turner stopped touring in 2009, and in 2013 became a citizen of Switzerland. In the same year, she tied the knot with her longtime partner, Erwin Bach. She disclosed that in 2017, she underwent a kidney transplant and battled intestinal cancer. She had previously tried suicide and experienced a stroke.

One of the finest singers of all time, Turner served as an inspiration for a lot of other musicians. She received eight Grammy Awards and sold over 200 million records worldwide. As a solo performer and a member of the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, she was also twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Turner is survived by her husband, four children, two grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. Her publicist said: “With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”
